When life gives you unexpected challenges, you either let them define you—or you rise above them. My son Justin, at just 15 years old, has shown us all what it means to live with courage, kindness, and an unstoppable sense of humor.

Justin lives with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a condition that weakens his muscles over time. But if you meet him, that’s not what you’ll notice first. You’ll see his smile, hear his laughter, and feel the warmth of his heart. His diagnosis is part of his life, yes—but it does not define who he is.

He loves being outdoors, whether it’s spending time with friends, feeling the sun on his face, or competing in one of his favorite sports—Boccia. On the Boccia court, he shines. Focused, determined, and always ready with a joke to lighten the moment, he reminds everyone watching that ability isn’t always about physical strength—it’s about heart.

Justin has a way of making people laugh even on the hard days. He’s funny in that gentle, soft-hearted way that makes others feel seen and valued. Whether it’s comforting someone else who’s having a tough time or sharing a silly story to brighten the room, he spreads joy wherever he goes.

Living with Duchenne isn’t easy. There are days when things feel heavy, when muscles tire, and when simple activities take extra effort. But Justin faces each day with courage. He inspires me and so many others to appreciate the small victories, to lead with kindness, and to never lose sight of what makes life beautiful.

As his mom, I am beyond proud of the young man he is becoming. He may roll through life in a wheelchair, but his spirit soars higher than most. Justin is proof that your attitude can be your greatest strength, and that positivity—when shared freely—can change the world around you.

He is my inspiration, my joy, and my reminder that life’s most beautiful moments are found in laughter, love, and simply being together.
